Immigration & Visa
All the matters concerned with immigration and visa should be handled by Office of International Affairs at KNU. Thus, when you have a problem with your visa status or any other questions, please visit our office and contact the person in charge of the matters. Please refer to the last page of this book to find out an appropriate person.
1. Alien Registration Card
Within 90 days from the day of your arrival in Korea, you must apply for a Certificate of Foreign Registration at the Immigration Office.
Students holding a D-2 visa should obtain an Foreign registration card after their arrival in Korea. Please submit the following documentation to OIA

D. 1 photos (3.5cm×4.5cm)
E. Fee: ₩ 10,000
2. Re-issuance of Alien Registration Card
In case of the loss of alien registration card, s/he should notify our office immediately, and it has to be reissued.

3. Extension of Visa
Students who wish to extend their stay in Korea beyond the period of their visa should apply for a visa extension prior to the expiration date of stay. If this is not done, students may be fined for violating the law related to the entry and departure of foreigners.

E. Fee: ₩ 30,000
※ The students, who have completed their coursework, are also eligible to apply for an extension of visa. In this case, however, you must apply for the extension every six month. After the completion of coursework, the total period of extension is one year for M.A. candidates and two years for Ph.D. candidates.

4. Re-entry Permit
1) If you wish to leave temporarily and re-enter Korea within the period of stay given, you are required to apply for a re-entry permit before leaving Korea. However, people, who fall under the following categories, a re exempted from this.
A. If you are a national of the countries below, you are exempt from having to apply for a re-entry permit.
☞ The Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland(including Liechtenstein), France, Finland
B. If you have a multiple Korean visa, you don't have to obtain a re-entry permit, but only on the condition that you return to Koreawithintheperiodofstaygiven.
* Note : If you leave Korea without a re-entry permit, you must get a new Korean visa to return to Korea even if your period of stay has not yet expired.
2) To apply for a re-entry permit, you can visit our office or you can apply for the re-entry permit at ports of departure on your departure date.

₩50,000 for a multiple re-entry permit
3) When your application is accepted, the immigration officer in charge will stamp your passport to show you have obtained a re-entry permit.
5. Change of Residence
1) In case of changing your place of residence, you should report the change to the district (Gu) office or our office within 14 days from the date of change.
2) If you do not report the change of your residence within 14 days, you will be fined.

6. Change of Visa Status from Language Training (D-4) to Study Visa (D-2)
When you want to change your visa status from D-4 to D-2, you have to prepare for the following items and apply for the change to our office.

7. Permit of Part-time Job (S-3 visa)
1) International students with D4 or D2 visa, who have completed one semester, can work a part-time job by adding S-3 visa.
2) Allowed Working Hours
- During Semester: 20 hours/weekday(Mon. – Fri.)
- Weekend, Holiday & Vacation: No limit
* Note: The students, who want to work a part-time job legally, should report the fact to our office. If you do not report, you will be fined.

D. Contract of Employment (including working hours, place, duty, etc.)
